The International Union of Railways (IUR) is an international organisation that promotes the creation of a unified railway market across Europe and other continents. Established in 1922, the Union operates on a membership basis of both railway companies and associated member organisations. It provides a forum for its members to discuss issues of common interest and coordinate international railway activities. Through its initiatives and recommendations, the Union plays an important role in the regulation of railway services, traffic, infrastructure and other aspects of the industry.
