The London Docklands Development Corporation (LDDC) was set up by the British government in 1981 to regenerate the derelict docklands area in east London. It was tasked with the development of employment and housing opportunities in an area of massive unemployment and social exclusion.

The LDDC focused on five main development initiatives: regeneration of individual sites, improvement of the general environment, promotion of industrial development, infrastructure improvement and promotion of community initiatives. The LDDC considered regeneration of the area as a long-term process and encouraged collaboration between the local authorities, businesses, private sector and other organisations.
