Losar is a Tibetan Buddhist festival that marks the beginning of the New Year also both in India as well as Tibet. The festival traces its roots back to pre-Buddhist times and marks the end of the old and the beginning of the new year. Celebrated for fifteen days, Losar is one of the most important holidays for the Tibetan people and is celebrated with prayers, songs and dances.

On the first day of the festival, the Buddha statue is bow down and bathed with scented water. Then offerings are made in order to gain divine protection and good luck in the year ahead.
