"Moa" in context

Moa were a group of nine species of large, flightless birds that lived in New Zealand until the fifteenth century. They were the only ratites (large, flightless birds) to have ever lived in New Zealand, and they were the tallest bird species in the world until they became extinct. Moa stood up to 12 feet (3.6 m) tall and could weigh up to 500 pounds (227 kg). They had long legs and necks that helped them browse plants from taller bushes and trees.

Moa were generally divided into two broad categories: the "Megalapterygidae" and the "Emeidae".
