"Danae" in context
Danae is an important figure in Greek mythology who was the mother of Perseus, the legendary Greek hero who performed many heroic deeds during his lifetime. Her story begins when she was the daughter of Acrus, King of Argos. She was imprisoned by her father because of an oracle's prediction claiming she would give birth to a son who would eventually overthrow the king, leading to her father's demise. After much effort, Danae's virginity was eventually breached by the god Zeus, who disguised himself in the form of golden rain. From the conception sprang Perseus who eventually overthrew Acris, fulfilling the prophecy.
