STS stands for Space Transportation System and it is a spacecraft system operated by NASA. It is composed of two main components, the Space Shuttle and its external fuel tank, solid rocket boosters and the Space Station. The Space Shuttle was the first reusable spacecraft system which was used for the transportation of humans and cargo into space. The Space Station is a habitable satellite which is used for scientific research and exploration.

Since its first successful launch in 1981, STS has completed over 135 missions, with more scheduled for the future. The shuttle has delivered satellites, conducted on-orbit experiments and proved vital for the servicing and maintenance of the Hubble Space Telescope.
