Georges bizet was a French Romantic composer who left an immense legacy of musical works. He is best known for his opera Carmen, which premiered in 1875 and has remained one of the most popular operas ever since. Bizet was born in Paris in 1838. He played the piano and wrote music as a child and studied at the Paris Conservatory at the age of nine. In 1857, he won the prestigious Prix de Rome and furthered his studies in Italy. In the early 1860s, he wrote several symphonic works and several operas.
