"Giver" in context
The giver is a 1993 novel by American author Lois Lowry. It is set in a dystopian futuristic world, and follows the story of Jonas, a young boy who is chosen to be the Receiver of Memory, a boy with the power to access memories of the past before they were erased. Along with the power to access memories comes the responsibility of being the Giver, or the one responsible for dispatching the memories to the members of the community. The Giver is accountable to the conformity of the society and has the power to make decisions that will impact the future.
