"Turner" in context
Turner was an English Romantic painter, printmaker and watercolourist, who spent almost all of his working life in London. He is one of the most important landscape artists of the 19th century, known for his expressive use of light and colour. His works include "The Fighting Temeraire," along with many other seascapes and landscapes. Turner was highly inventive and experimental, often creating abstracted and almost schematic versions of his scenes and compositions. He opened up a range of ideas on perspective and colour to be explored in future generations.
