"Tick" in context
A tick is a small parasitic arachnid that feeds on the blood of a warm-blooded host to survive. While most commonly associated with dogs and cats, ticks actually can come in contact with several different warm-blooded hosts, including humans. Ticks prefer woody, bushy areas and areas with tall grass, as these give ticks the greatest chance of making contact with their host.
There are numerous species of ticks, some of which are actively infectious. Because of this, it is important to quickly identify and remove an attached tick from a host before it has the chance to spread a serious infection, such as Lyme Disease.
