"Yak" in context
Yak is a long-haired mountain bovine native to the Himalayas in Central Asia. The yak is a large, sturdy animal that can weigh up to 1,500 pounds and grow to be 6 feet tall. They have a thick fur coat that is composed of two layers which help to keep them warm in the cold climates of the Himalaya Mountains. The upper layer is made up of long guard hair which helps keep the yak' s skin dry during rain and snow storms and the lower layer is made up of a thick, woolly undercoat. Yak hair can be used for several different things such as making clothing, blankets and rope.
